| 1935 | Studebaker | Dictator Phaeton | 1935 Studebaker Model 2A Dictator Phaeton. Believed to be the only example know to exist in the United States.-----------------The 1935 Studebaker emphasized more improved engineering and technology than styling change. The Planer independent front suspension was introduced on the Dictator Series 2A to provide a "Miracle Ride". Vacuum hydraulic brakes, overdrive free-wheeling, radio speaker provision in the headliner above the front windscreen, and the "Hill Holder" which locked the brakes when the driver depressed the clutch, were all new in this year. The Studebaker Dictator Series 2A offered here was shipped as a bare chassis to Australia where it was fitted with a right hand drive Phaeton body with side curtains. Studebaker commonly sent their cars to Australia as a bare chassis as it reduced overall shipping weight and space and served as a practical means to avoid damage to the body in trainsit. The Phaeton body was never built in North America and few, if any, would have been imported back to the United States making this car more than likely the only one of its kind in North America. When this car was returned to the United States it was converted to left hand drive and was totally restored to new condition inside and out. The burgundy paint shows well as does the tan interior. This being the only know example of its kind in North America, and in such fine condition, this studebaker is exceptionally desirable, and would be the centerpiece of any Studebaker collection. | 1952 | Muntz Jet | Convertible | SOLD!!!!!! SOLD!!!!!! SOLD!!!!!! SOLD!!!!!! SOLD!!!!!! The Muntz Jet was one of those interesting "shoestring" cars that sprang up in the late 40's and early 50's, when many believed that a dream and a little money were all it took to make it big in the auto business. The dreamer here was Earl "Madman" Muntz, an irrepressilbe radio/TV manufacturer whose wild-and-wooly advertising also made him Southern California's largest-and most flamboyant-used car dealer. Muntz's cars actually originated with Frank Kurtis, the famed designer of winning race cars. The powertrain was anything the buyer wanted, though 239cu.in. V-8's (Ford) with Edelbrock manifolds and heads were fitted to most examples. But Frank's was a small company building cars by hand, so sales were slow and profits were sparse. After building just 36 cars through 1950, Frank sold the company to the "Madman" for $200,000.00. Earl set about making the car more saleable, retaining the basic styling but adding 13 inches to the wheelbase, a back seat and many more conveniences. This meant extra weight, so Cadillac's engine was substituted for the Ford flathead. The result was America's first high-performance personal-luxury car. Muntz called it the Jet. Curiously the Cadillac V-8 was ditched for Lincoln's 336.7cu.in. flathead, albeit modified to produce 154bhp via soild lifters. The GM Hydra-Matic was made standard. The Lincoln powered models could do 0-60 in a tick over 12 seconds and 108mph. Even Earl didn't seem to know for sure, but it's estimated that 394 Jet's were built; of these, at least 49 survive today. This is car No. M203 with a very low windsheild, beautful Black Cherry Paint with white interior. According to the Muntz Registry this car was driven by Robin Williams in the 1992 Movie "TOYS".
